T- It seems like it is a story of her childhood since she grew up in Harlem. P- The poem is about the struggles African Americans had to go through, no matter what social class. C- Angelou uses the hops and jumps to show how people are trying to move forward with their life. A- The author's attitude is that life is hard but for African Americans it is especially hard. The speaker's tone towards life is that life is like hopscotch, you have to go through it no matter what. S- Every time the speaker takes a leap forward or backward is symbolizing how life changes either for the better or the worst. T- Life in Harlem must have been difficult for African American because of the segregation and racism. T- Life is like a game, difficult to win but not impossible.
